They are plenty bright, but can be set to several levels of dimming.There is a button on the power plug that allows you to select many of the modes of operation. The remote makes the selection easier with individual buttons for each feature. You get a bunch of steady and flashing modes as well as the ability to dim the lights. When dim, the various flashing or fading up/down are all limited to the max brightness set by the dimming.The remote is infrared LED, not radio frequency. You need to point the remote at the plug in module like you would a TV remote. If you have multiple strings, all stings respond to any of the remotes. I plugged several into the same power strip so often the all responded to the one remote. Depended on the exact angle of the aim. Even different color lights of the same brand responded.Since the remote is not going to work through a wall, I think the purpose is to allow you to set the lighting mode you want and if you want auto shutoff, then stop using the remote. Even after losing power, the lights will come back on in the previously set mode.Like all LED lights, they do have a delicate nature about them. With care, they seem to be good lights.
