The media could not be loaded.3/23/2025 : I took a deep breath, turned off my brain, and began the process of installing on the passenger side door, inner and outer door. It went, stepwise, for a couple of hours, until the job was done. Sound deadening, on top of which I also installed closed cell foam. To cap it off, I put a slice of foam in the tweeter cover, as well as circular speaker foam for the door speakers, to channel the acoustics more efficiently into the car. Once it was done, I went on the highway. Yes, it was quieter. I played my music. It sounded harsh. Terrible. Why? Because I was hearing the distortion of my EQ settings from the original setup. I pulled into my garage and played with the Eq. Everyone’s car is different, mine is a 2007 Corolla with JB speakers I upgraded to in 2014. With the sound deadening properly installed (on more than 50% of flat metal), especially near the speakers, meant I had stronger bass and mid. The closed cell foam meant I could hear more clearly with less noise (and a better noise signature). It also meant that the door, properly (mostly) sealed behaved as a reliable speaker house, reducing distortion. Finally, speaker foam channeling the sound into the car reduced distortion, making the car receiver/amp more efficient in creating distortion free waves. End result is that you should not need to crank up the volume to hear great music. So, for my case, I left the bass boost and loudness settings as they were, but switched the eq from flat or bass heavy, and switched it to “vocal”. Boom. Wow. Every song sounds like I have the musician singing inside my car. Even at low volume, music sounds so relaxing, like background music is supposed to. So, this would be my advice, if you plan to install these. Do it once. Do it properly. Use all three types of acoustic enhancers (butyl deadener, closed cell foam, and speaker foam), then switch your eq to focus on vocals. Good luck! The ring goes around the speaker, to guide it in, while the circle goes behind the speaker to improve acoustic performance.
