About the Garrett T4 and T04E Turbocharger The Garrett T4 and its most common variant, the T04E, are among the most prolific high-performance turbochargers ever produced. The T4 platform was developed as a larger-displacement companion to the T3, featuring a four-bolt rectangular turbine housing inlet and a physically larger turbine wheel to support higher airflow and higher horsepower applications. The T04E — T04 compressor housing with E-trim compressor wheel — became a benchmark in the aftermarket performance world for its combination of broad power range, excellent price-to-performance ratio, and wide availability of rebuild components. T04E turbos appear in drag racing builds, street performance cars, diesel performance applications, and engine swap projects across virtually every vehicle segment. Common platforms include Ford 5.0L Mustang V8 builds, small-block Chevrolet V8 conversions, turbocharged four-cylinder sport compact engines, and diesel trucks running aftermarket boost upgrades. T4 Gasket Requirements The T4 turbine housing uses a larger flange than the T3, requiring a gasket that covers more surface area and maintains uniform sealing force across a larger diameter. A T3 gasket will not fit a T4 turbine housing, and a gasket not rated for the T4 application temperature range will fail prematurely under sustained high-boost operation. This gasket set is dimensionally matched to the T4 turbine housing and rated for T04E application demands. The exhaust housing gasket uses self-sealing stainless steel construction. The oil drain and oil inlet gaskets seal the center section oil passages to the same specification used in Garrett OEM production.
