About the Garrett GT25R and GT28R The Garrett GT25R and GT28R are among the most popular performance turbochargers ever built for the sport compact market. The GT25R appears in Nissan SR20DET engine builds, Honda K-series and B-series projects, and countless custom performance applications where a compact, fast-spooling turbo is needed. The GT28R steps up in compressor wheel size to support higher airflow, making it a favorite for builds targeting 300 to 400 horsepower on four-cylinder engines. Whether you are rebuilding a GT25R that developed an exhaust leak after years of track use, resealing a GT28R after a bearing replacement, or doing preventive maintenance on a high-mileage unit, this gasket set has every seal needed for a complete, professional-quality rebuild. Why Gasket Quality Matters in High-RPM Performance Turbos A turbocharger operates in one of the most thermally demanding environments in any engine. Exhaust gas temperatures at the turbine inlet regularly exceed 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit, while shaft speeds reach 100,000 to 150,000 RPM in a small-frame turbo like the GT25R or GT28R. At those temperatures and speeds, a failed gasket is not just an inconvenience — it is a direct threat to the turbocharger. An exhaust housing gasket failure allows hot exhaust gas to bypass the turbine housing flange, reducing effective boost, creating exhaust noise under load, and exposing the bearing housing to uncontrolled thermal stress. An oil drain gasket failure allows oil to pool and coke in the center section, accelerating bearing wear that can destroy an otherwise good rebuild within hours of first use. At PT Turbo, we have been rebuilding turbochargers since 1978 at our San Bernardino, California shop. We have seen firsthand what substandard gasket materials do to an otherwise correct rebuild. This kit is manufactured to the same dimensional specifications as Garrett OEM production gaskets. Installation Tips from PT Turbo Proper installation is as important as gasket quality. Here is what our rebuild technicians recommend for the GT25R and GT28R: Remove all traces of the old gasket from both mating surfaces before installation. Even a thin layer of residual material will prevent a complete seal. Inspect the exhaust housing and center section flanges for warping. A warped flange will not seal regardless of gasket quality. Torque all fasteners to the manufacturer specification — overtightening distorts the gasket material, undertightening allows boost-pressure leaks. Replace the oil drain gasket every time the center section is removed. This gasket compresses on first use and cannot re-seal reliably once disturbed. On the first startup after a rebuild, idle for five to ten minutes before driving to allow the new gaskets to fully seat through an initial heat cycle. Questions?
